Part 2 and 3 of Recasting the Tale

By the end of friday's class I will want to see:

1)the full breakdown of the fairy tale into the most basic formula (Plot Outline)

2)The brainstorming of 25 different ways in which to recast the tale - using changes in setting, characters, and perhaps twists in the plotline - done in group

3)The set-up of your story page as /RecastTale and a proposal to what you intend to do with your recast - a summary of who the characters are, the setting, and a basic overview of what you intend to change.
+++We will also link the group page to your /RecastTale page, for easier reference. To do this, you must put in the link of the group page : GroupOne or GroupTwo (etc.) into the YourName/RecastTale page. We will work on this together in class.

Remember, this is only a proposal, it is not set in stone. Be creative but also selective in appropriate content.

The wiki is out there for all to see and you will need to keep in mind that your writing will be seen by outsiders.

Bring your book for reference.

For Monday, have a rough draft of your new fairy tale on your page and we will begin a workshop in editing.

Recasting Part 1 and 2

Please bring your TGFTT book (Jack Zipes) to class.

Today you will be working on Part 1 and 2 of your Recasting the Tale project.

If you do not have a group, I will assign you one when the class assembles. Please be on time and ready to work through the fairy tale your group chose.

Group Work - homework

Your group chose a fairy tale to read from the three listed in the previous post.
Make sure to have everyone read this before Wednesday's class - we will be working with the tale and finding the characteristics of which we can recast the tale.

You will also decide whether to recast the tale as a group or individually.

Elements of Literature (part I)

Today we will be discussing the different genres of literature and their impact upon our lives.

We will then discuss elements of literature in groups and will apply what has been discovered to the fairy tale you chose to read last week. This will be called /Jan24 on your wiki page. (This assignment was scrapped)

Your group will then be selecting a fairy tale from The Great Fairy Tale Tradition to work with on Wednesday. The selections are from Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm's collection:
  • Cinderella (468)
  • Rumplestiltskin (625)
  • Little Red Cap (747)

Your group members will need to read the same fairy tale and come in on Wednesday - ready to begin work on the first large project of the class.
