For Monday

Friday's class was small, so we worked through some problems with the symbols of those students who attended and we plan on coming back on Monday to discuss the project and what I expect from you.

Also, we will take a hike to the library and work on finding the books you need for the research. Remember, 4 sources in all (2 can be internet).

Research Day

Today we will discuss which websites could be used for research and how to find information online for your symbol.

I have added a checklist for acceptable websites to be used on the wiki assignment page.

Also, we will discuss how to use the AC Clark Library's WebPals in the CAL Lab. We will discuss ways in which to find certain symbols and how to find your information.

Some key words that could be used for library search are found below. Add in your symbol with the key word and see what comes up. If you cannot find your 2 library sources, consider changing your symbol to another. But, make sure you are basing it off of a fairy tale (be it story or movie). Some have already changed their symbol on the fact that the library may not have enough sources that would be credible for research.

Beginning of Symbolism

Today we will discuss symbols and what they may represent.

  1. Attendance
  2. Intro to symbolism
  3. Example using a common movie to dissect a symbol
  4. Fairy Tale symbols brainstorm and some discussion - group work in 4-5, find 25 different symbols that can be found in a fairy tale. Think of the first things you think of when you imagine a fairy tale.
  5. Make a page for your group with the 25 symbols you came up with in the wiki and also paste in the chat text into the wiki for future reference
  6. Homework: Choose a specific symbol you know and would be interested in exploring. Find a fairy tale from our book that deals with this symbol. If you cannot find a specific story, find a symbol close to that one to work with.
