Project is still due Friday at Midnight!
I have noticed some students have become confused on what we are doing for this project.
Here is a recap:
Project Prompt: I want you to find a single Fairy Tale story (written in our blue book or a movie-if it is cleared with me first) in which you will choose a single symbol. This symbol, you will explore through the story - find out what it brings to the story, think about why the author included it as a symbol and why it is worth looking at. What does it represent? We are looking for the implied and hidden. Also, if the symbol has taken a drastic change in our present time (in movies and culture), how do you see this affecting the fairy tale? Why do you think this change has occurred?
Sources: Then, I will be looking for 4 sources from which you will find more information about this symbol. Two sources can be from the internet. But, the website must clear most of the guidelines as discussed in the assignment page. The rest of the sources must be from print sources (library material). I encourage you to find journal articles, symbology books, encyclopedias, and Old English Dictionaries to explore your symbol. If you have chosen a symbol that you cannot find information on - I encourage you to change the topic after talking to me and finding another to work with.
Today: I will be taking attendance in the classroom at 2pm and discussing this post. I will then go through some of the questions and afterwards (around 2:20) will invite those that need to, to go to the library and we will work on finding sources. For those that have found their sources, they are encouraged to stay in the classroom and work on their project and I will come back to the classroom at 2:45 to see if anyone has questions.
*Wednesday: We will discuss plagiarism and citing our sources. Please bring all materials you have to be able to make this citation part of your project. We will be following the MLA format as closely as a wiki can. I will expect your wiki project to be roughly written into your wiki page and ready to be previewed by myself to make sure you are keeping up with the class. I am looking for 700+ words on exploration of the symbol and what it can mean in the story and through our current understanding of it.
*Friday: We will have a peer review edit of our projects and I will see this as a large part of the participation part of the course. Any days we have a peer review, I will expect attendance to be high for such a project.
*This schedule could change, but I will give proper warning beforehand.
